There are many structures around the world called castles. They are largely grouped into two castle types according to their given purposes - the ones that function as a military strong point and the ones that serve as a magnificent residence for the royals and alike. Either way, the majority of us would picture historic structures when we think of castles.
Japanese castles that stand atop Ishigaki stone walls, picturesque castles of Europe that look straight out of Grimm Fairy Tales and exotic castles from Arabian Nights… As such, castles are found throughout the world. Often designated as cultural heritage properties, many of them still retain their original beauty and majesty, and play an important role as tourist attractions.
However, not all castles are of such grand scale. Sometimes we refer to our personal sacred space as “castle.” For some, it maybe the kitchen or study. Or a safe harbor in one’s heart that provides peace of mind... Whatever it maybe, we all have a place in us that we cherish, and call a castle.
In this exhibition, we had artists create a wide array of castle-themed senga. You may find it interesting to compare their interpretations of castles as opposed to your own.

The latest installment of our Onomatopoeia Series following “Glitters and Sparkles” and “Fluffy” is “Smooth.” While often used to describe a flowing motion, “smooth” is also used to express physical sensations such as touching and tasting.
A flowing river, shiny hair, the sound of a gentle breeze, a silk dress… The images the word “smooth” evokes in each of us may be vastly different as it being a versatile word used in association with varying situations and objects, typically in a positive context.
We are happy to have you join us to enjoy the feel-good world of senga works inspired by the sense of smoothness that we’ve always cherished.

The creative theme for the first exhibition of 2025 is “fruits.” In Japan, every season features fruits that echo the country’s unique seasonal characteristics. Fruits such as strawberries in spring, watermelons in summer and apples in autumn add gustatorial richness to our daily life.
In this exhibition, we asked artists to create fruit-inspired senga. What you see here in “Fruit Paradise” include not only the still images or visual impressions of fruits but also those dealing with old legends and stories in which fruits play prominent roles, and artists’ favorite fruits and memories of them. Every senga in this exhibition is a representation of each artist’s world view through fruits as well as emotional connections people have with fruits.
